Give It Fresh Today program to help the homeless

The spirit of giving continues as the G.I.F.T. Program (Give It Fresh Today) collects food donations to support services provided by the Institute of Human Services and Unity Church of Hawaii helping the homeless in Hawaii.

Please look for the Give It Fresh Today booth at the KCC Market on Saturdays. They will collect your produce donations and distribute the fresh, locally grown food to organizations that help to feed those less fortunate and who have fewer choices about what they eat.

  1. Aloha,

I am writing to inquire about your Give It Fresh Today campaign to see if there would be opportunity to do something similar at the Waianae Farmers’ Market for families at Ulu Ke Kukui and Kumuhonua shelters on the Leeward Coast. I work with Hawaiian Community Assets a nonprofit organization providing family financial education to families in said shelters and we have found that their incomes are so limited that they often times do not have the funds necessary to purchase fresh fruits and vegetables though they wish they could.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or otherwise. Mahalo for all your great work…Jeff (587-7653)

      Aloha Jeff,

Thank you for contacting us. That would be a great thing to get going on. I just emailed Vivian Chau your suggestion and contact info. Vivian is coordinating the Give It Fresh Campaign.

      Hope it happens soon.

      Lisa

To add, GIFT is also at the Wednesday Farmer’s Market at Blaisdell. In addition to donating what you buy from the markets, you can bring your own home grown fresh fruit and produce to donate to the program. If you are overwhelmed by your bumper crop of mangos, zucchini, or tomatoes, bring them in and share!
